Pallet wrap FAQs

July 27, 2023

Pallet wrap frequently asked questions

Pallet wrap is a thin plastic film used to wrap and secure items on a pallet for shipping and storage. Compared to shrink wrap, pallet wrap is flexible and designed to tightly secure items together, preventing shifting during transportation.

The question is how can you know which pallet wrap is right for your application?

Businesses of all shapes and sizes often ask about our range of wraps and we’ve noticed that some questions come up more often than others. To simplify the wrap selection process for you, we’ve answered the top 5 questions below.

Use our Pallet Wrap Calculator to find out how much you could save on pallet wrap.

1. Can pallet wraps go into soft plastic recycling?

According to the Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme, soft plastics consist of grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wraps, plastic wrappers of products such as biscuits, chips, and some soft plastic sheaths. Pallet wrap, compostable bags, meat trays, cellophane, and food-contaminated plastics are not recyclable via the programme.

However, we stock several pallet wraps that are 100% recyclable via the regional recycling schemes around New Zealand. These include our EasyWrap Hand Stretchwrap, Grip Systems Eco, Pre-Stretch Handwrap, and even our pallet bags.

2. Where do we find Multilayer wrap?

Some of our multilayer wraps may not appear in the pallet wrapping section on our website. However, the ranges from both Easywrap and Ultiwrap are made with multilayer technology.

3. How can Grip Eco be puncture resistant with only 5 microns?

With only 5 microns, the Grip Systems Eco wrap is lightweight, user-friendly, and self-gripping. The film is pre-stretched to near breaking point in production which results in a lower micron film, however, this doesn’t affect its strength or puncture resistance. In fact, it compares to the strength and puncture resistance of a much thicker conventional film.

With blown films, the particles inside are blown in random directions during production, making them extremely puncture resistant.

4. Which products contain Post Industrial Recycled (PIR) content?

At Primepac, we are committed to sustainability and are actively looking for ways to reduce the volume of resources we use and the amount of materials that end up in landfill. One way we are doing that is by introducing PIR content in our products. This means that used or wasted materials are repurposed instead of going to landfill.

We are proud to offer products that feature post-industrial recycled content, reducing waste, conserving natural resources, and lowering your carbon footprint. For example, our Grip Film Eco is a PIR product, made with 30% post-industrial recycled content.

5. What products do you have available that contain PIR?

Unlike conventionally manufactured products which require more raw materials, PIR wraps are more sustainable and in increasing demand. Our Grip Film Eco is a PIR hand wrap, manufactured in a carbon-neutral facility and made with 30% recycled content. It’s also 100% recyclable, making it ideal for minimising waste.

Our team are also exploring more PIR products, including both machine wraps and hand wraps that have either post-consumer or post-industrial recycled content.
